If it has performance improvements and Win7 style desktop, I'll upgrade after a few months. Don't want all the shit that Microsoft will most likely include

When Win 7 reaches end-of-life I will move to Ubuntu Linux. Try it, you will like it :)

Linux users were always and will always be the hipsters and masochists of the web for me. Why use a comfortable, fast and good looking fully functional, everything supporting OS if you can use a clunky, fugly OS that needs months of learning how to install a simple WLAN adapter. I am electrical engineering student and have some buddies like this. I always laugh when they turn on their notebook and start going through hundreds of menus to adjust resolution when projecting their screen through a beamer and then be busy with trying to get a needed webplugin installed for certain websites in their l33t non-mainstream indie browsers. While they are spending hours showing off with how much knowledge and skill it takes to operate linux properly I got actual shit done twice and am already heading towards cafeteria to eat lunch.

Its compareable to Mac. Just that Mac looks better and its only purpose is to drain peoples wallets.

Gentoo Linux representing.

I can't stand doing any work with windows. All I use it for is gaming; any time I've to write a document, program or whatever, it's linux time.

So, Liam. Are you a hipster or a masochist now?

I've been using Linux for years now. Every piece of real work I have to do, I do it on my linux partition. I've been using Linux on my phone (android), my laptop, my server and my desktop PC. You dont have to be a crack to use linux anymore. Distros like ubuntu are so easy to use and well documented and have a huge community that offers free support that every problem a normie could encounter should be fixable.

Drivers work nowadays too on these distros. Specially ubuntu. Printer, wireless, etc. As long as you dont have super fancy special hardware its supported. Havent had a isssue with a driver under Fedora since forever. ubuntu seriously include most of the drivers anyway from the beginning. No need to download those - unlike in windows...

Installing software is so easy. You dont have to search on the internet for most of the software. usually there is a appstore like application that uses the package manager in the background on all those distros.

See here for an example:
http://someplacedumb.net/misc/linux/gra ... center.png

Linux is way easier to use on alot of stuff then windows. It starts that it has a centralized package-manager that does take care of system and software updates up to the ability to customize the OS as you wish.

And to be honest spook. That is fairly ignorant to say. Sure there are those hipsters that modify there system behoynd usability. But saying that linux is not fast and stable shows me you dont have expierences. Most servers are using linux as OS just for that reason. Its incredible stable and cheaper to use than a windows server.

The only really bad point I can agree on is that linux as workstation is not usable if:

- you are doing professional image and video editing
- you have industry grade software that needs to run
- (you want to game)

Even tho gaming is growing under linux. Already half my steam libary is also running under linux. I could even play BF2 flawlessly and even PR if it wasnt for the launcher.

Just to conclude from my expierence of linux: Linux is good for workstations, servers and home computer as long as you dont do the stuff named above. Even tho gaming is not a real point anymore.
