Here is a summary of the things that we have been working on over the past month!

- Updated the game to use v4.6 of the engine.
- Made substantial progress on our website front-end.
- Major work in overhauling movement animations using motion capture data.
- Added basic implementation of throw-able and handheld items.
- Added grenade explosion damage, effect and sound playback.
- Added initial grenade explosion sounds.
- Implemented positional damage based on body hit location.
- Completed the M249 model (the US Army automatic rifle we will be using).
- Continued work on detailing our current environment and added new additional environment models.
- Completed final work on the voice implementation and ironed out most bugs with it.
- Added the ability for the player to configure the volume settings for the entire game, effects, voice, and music.
- Implemented a system for easily balancing the volume of various effect types in game.
- Added support for Linux dedicated servers (we also are ensuring the game compiles and cooks for Linux clients from now on as well).
- Implemented separate recoil/bolt/trigger fire animations.
- Implemented bolt locking/catching when out of ammo.
- Implemented +1 round in the chamber for tactical reloads.
- Implemented different reload times for tactical vs dry.
- Made vertical view (looking up and down) networked.
- Implemented basic view interpolation to the engine, which makes other networked players looking in various directions be smoothed.
- Made improvements to admin functionality.
- Added a simple crash log & dump reporting system.
- Made numerous big fixes and minor improvements.

 -  Implemented +1 round in the chamber for tactical reloads.
 -  Implemented different reload times for tactical vs dry.

Can anyone explain this?

Does this mean you can shoot one round if an enemy pops up even though you are not finished reloading?

And what is tactical/dry reloading?

You start with a mag of 30 bullets and you fire those 30 when you reload (dry) you'll have, again, 30 bullets to fire but imagine of these 30 you fire 29 and reload (tactical) you'll now have 30 bullets from the mag plus 1 that is still in the chamber.

In terms off reload speed/animation one is faster then the other due to need of having to "cock" the weapon, not sure how to say that.

Dry reload means that you also empty the round in the chapter. While try is a simple remove of the magazine and inserting a new one.

Basically the differences in steps:

Dry:
1. Pull the lever on the side to eject the round in the chamber. Keep the lever pulled.
2. Remove the magazine
3. insert a new magazine
4. Release the lever again to load a new round round.

Tactical
1. remove the magazine
2. insert new magazine

A tactical reload is faster but is more prone to cause jams and it only works of course if you have a round left in the chamber. This itself is not the tactical reload. It generally contains every reload "style" to improve speed of the reload. For example taking the magazine out of your vest while simultaneously removing the magazine from your gun.

Obviously now that if you have a 30 round magazine and insert into a empty gun and reload (which can only be dry) you have 1 round in the chamber and 29 left in the magazine itself. If you now tactical reload, you gain 1 bullet since you do not remove the round in the chamber. But when you do a dry reload you do not gain this extra round since you ejected it first. An example for a tactical reload:

Image

It is normally used within Special Forces Operator, such as Navy Seals, Kommando Spezialkräfte, etc.. because it requires a lot of training and normal soldiers usually have the time for a quick reload. You can actually see both being done in PR while there its not possible for you to have the extra round.

EDIT: Just to say that is my knowledge that I gathered playing video games and reading on stuff. I am not an expierenced soldier nor did I ever shot a real gun in my life. So it may not completly correct but if I remember it right AK has some knowledge or at least Stonefly.

Weed, you don't remove rounds from the chamber (at least not in combat). You're dry because you simply fired all rounds in the magazine and there's nothing left.

In short:

Dry reload: you fire all your rounds and your magazine is completely empty and there's no round in the chamber - you replace the magazine and cycle bolt / pull cocking lever / press bolt release catch;

Tactical reload: there's still rounds left in your magazine and one in the chamber, but you know it's half-capacity / almost empty and you'll want it to be full for what's coming or simply reload faster - you replace the magazine and you're good to go, now having a full magazine and plus one round in the chamber from the previous one, and not needing to do any aditional actions to ready your weapon for fire.

yea. obviously you dont want to eject a round when not needed, and you want to empty your magazine before a reload. But there are also reason to dry reload while have a round the chamber.

What Stealth wrote is for weapons firing from closed bolts.
If you are firing from open bolt like most maschine guns or UZI you can actually shoot it dry and still do a tactical reload if you dont pull the trigger after firing the last round (which you only know if you keep count).
