Please share your favourite philosophical articles/books/authors here. You may include science (as in, the scientific method and principle) and politics (as in, the art of debate, rethoric and dialectic) and general belief systems (no religious debate).

Debate strategies
Arthur Schopenhauer: Die Kunst, Recht zu behalten - The Art Of Controversy
http://coolhaus.de/art-of-controversy/

This one should really be required reading for all grade 12 pupils. So much of the described strategies are used to mess with our minds daily!

Science/belief
Lack of credibility of Anthropogenic Global Warming alarmists
http://thepointman.wordpress.com/2013/0 ... eir-mouth/

AGW alarmists adopt every trick in Schopenhauer's extended works to avoid an intellectually honest debate. Combined with data that disproves their position, their credibility is rock bottom today.

I took a philosophy course last semester and I really enjoyed most of the dialogues of Plato (the earlier dialogues are Socrates' thoughts which tend to bleed into Plato's philosophy in the later dialogues)

http://www.amazon.com/Great-Dialogues-P ... 0451530853 (its like $6.60)

Plato is a really good start for anyone who is starting in philosophy and his ideas are reasonable.
We also read Aristotle (I didn't really like him as much as Plato), Descartes (interesting but I had a few problems with philosophy), Hume (crazy nihilist), Siddhartha (crazy) among many others. These are some key philosophers that if you are looking to read into philosophy would be a great start.

My personal favorites are Karl Barth (German) and Søren Kierkegaard (Danish), however they pose a more religiously oriented argument

If you got a lot of time on your hands I can also suggest Søren Kierkegaard. Most of his text are quite incomprehensible and has to be read several times if you want to grasp them =D

Eckhart Tolle's "The Power of Now" has got to be one of my favourite books around. It can get pretty screwed up at times imo. Also I only had Philosophy in high school but studied a bit of Stuart Mill, Plato, Kant, Nietzsche, and some others. I do like the Objectivism school of though developed by Ayn Rand that separates the "real" from our perception of "real". That reality exists independently of our perception and is unaffected by it. And much other stuff.

How did I miss the thread? Well, I can recommend all of you these:
1. Basically whole Bergsons work (starting with The Creative Mind: An Introduction to Metaphysics)
2. For light reading: St. Augistine De natura boni
3. For hardcore players: Kant. Basically all of him (mainly: Kritik der reinen Vernunft)
3b. All work created for Berlins Academy Contest in 1763
4. Nietzsche - Ecce Homo and Also sprach Zarathustra

That'd be it for now. I'll definetely come up with new ideas ;D

Hilary Putnam - The Many Faces of Realism. A MUST read.
